I doubt a screen would crash the PC. The only little bit of info that the PC gets from the Screen is related to the refresh rates and screen res it is capable off. DDC or something it's called.
I would probably point it towards something that you do on your PC or some Piece of software you have installed differently. Even a setting in BIOS could be all that makes your PC not perform in the same manner as your friends machine.
If they are definitely the same machines, same spec, CPU, memory, everything, then I would go through the BIOS with your friend and set everything in your BIOS as it is in his.
If you are just going on machine spec details and not the physical hardware, such as memory make and model, then it could just be a slight difference in the Ram Modules branding that could be cause of problems.
I would get everything double checked before you make assumptions that it could be your Screen.
